Physical Fitness

By Victor Agbo

Physical fitness is very good, everyone can attest to that. We all know #everyone likes being physically fit and everyone likes people that look physically fit. But don't misunderstand it please. Being fit is not all about having the perfect shape. That brings us to an important question; what does it mean to be physically fit?

Sheila Rolling says; "To be physically fit means to be in a state of health and well-being. Physical fitness is defined as the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist disease and to react to emergency situations."

So, can your body function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities? Are you healthy? Can your body resist diseases and react positively to emergency situations? All these are questions you have to #sincerely answer within yourself. No one knows your body like you. The fact that you're thin and has a model-like physical appearance does not make you more physically fit than the amazing "Rebel Wilson". So ask yourself; are you physically fit?

It is very unfortunate that many people know the importance of physical fitness but lack the self-discipline required to do what it takes. But just in case you don't know the benefits of being physically fit, physical fitness makes your body function at a high level. It makes you happy. It maintains the performance of your lungs and heart, making it effectively burn off excess calories and keep your weight under control. It improves your muscle strength, joint flexibility and your ability to endure. It decreases the risk of heart disease, stroke, colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure, just to mention a few.

You may now begin to wonder; how exactly can one become physically fit? It's simple; exercise!

I know the reason many people don't exercise is because they make it look more taxing than it should actually be. Exercise can be so much fun, it does not have to be boring. Activities like walking, swimming, biking or organised sports can serve as exercise and contribute greatly to making you physically fit. Don't just think of weightlifting when people talk of exercise. There's a wide range of options to choose from. And you can do it with friends, to make it more exciting. Or even join strangers and get to know new people as you're on it. Believe me, exercise can be much fun.

Well, for me, I love jogging, biking and swimming. I decide to walk sometimes, but in rare cases. Often time I just jog. But the truth is that every time I exercise, I feel amazing. Apart from the medical benefits, that amazing feeling is another something that makes me continue exercising. It makes me walk tall and with more confidence. *I don't even know if my last statement makes any sense.*

Well, that's all about that. I just finished biking today and the amazing feeling I got pushed me to write this. I just hope it's useful enough to actually gives you more reasons to push yourself into working out.

Adios Amigos ;-)
