So Jesus Sinned Too, According To The Bible?

Here's an article sent in by one of our very regular readers, Spane5 ... Read, digest and help him with your feedbacks

So in the Catholic Church, we no more shake hands for now, and we no more collect communion on our tongues; there are hand sanitizers for our hands, we place our left
hands on our right hands, the reverend drops the communion on the left palm, then pick it into our mouths with the right hand. We bow during sign of peace, we don’t shake. So what’s up with your parish over there, I hope it’s the same everywhere. Ebola has come to teach us hygiene and personal neatness! It has come to transform our social lives in its own special way.
Well that’s not my main aim of writing this post: The Catholic Church gospel reading (according to Mathew 15: 21-28) today (last Sunday) has put a lot of curiosity on my mind. I know right from time, that the bible teachings are 90 percent contextual and that makes it look like it contradicts itself, but this particularly portion drew my attention.
I quote
“At the time: Jesus went away and withdrew to the district Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried, “Have mercy on me, O lord, son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon.” But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, ‘send her away, for she is crying after us. ‘He answered, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ‘But she came and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, help me.’ And he answered, ‘it is not fair to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.’ ‘She said, ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.’ then Jesus answered her, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you desire. ‘And her daughter was healed instantly.”
Thank God the daughter was healed finally. Amen! But I have plenty questions for Christians who understands the faith better to put me and my co-confused fellas through. When I was a kid, I was made to believe Jesus Christ was God and so God was perfect, not minding the fact that he’s mysterious and does things his own way. I was made to believe that Jesus never did wrong throughout his life time. Ok.
But this Bible verse has built a lot of doubts in me. Now I’ve learnt a lot from the passage, we all have to be persistent in all our endeavors. We should have faith and stand by it. I also learnt that we should be empathetic, be able to help other people through their problems just like this woman was able to do for her daughter, not minding her being rejected 3 times. We should be able to stand up for our neighbors’ needs no matter who they are.
But then, a woman comes before God to seek for help that her daughter was severely possessed by demons, but he did not answer her; he ignored her, for what? But his mission was to come and save us all from our pains. Demon is not something to joke with. From my little knowledge, demons should be of the devil, someone here is crying trying to flee from the devil and follow you and all you do is ignore her? Well, God knows best, his ways are not our ways.
The disciples had to intervene for this woman, and this was what Jesus had to say: ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.’ What! First of all, that is to say that some people are automatically out of Jesus’ league. But the church said he was sent for all men and for their salvation. So if this woman was not persistent enough, she would have carried a wrong impression about the kingdom of God like most of us. So let’s crack this paradox out: if Jesus was speaking the truth, then that means his salvation was not for everyone (we sinners), it was for some special people. This contradicts the belief that he was sent for everyone. If he was lying (joking) that means someone here is not sin free. Above all, this is pure discrimination. So how can heaven discriminate against those he claims to have brought into existence and loves equally?
The woman was strong enough, she didn’t give up, she had to kneel before him to plead further and His second reply came: ‘it is not fair to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs’ Why nah? Why would God compare some human beings to dogs? The Israelites (children) were not sinners while others (Canaanites) were the sinners; I guess that was why they were compared to dogs. But generalizing a whole group of people and declaring them all Dogs is something hard for me to understand due to my childhood Christian teachings and expectations from God. Now this here is fallacy of faulty generalizations, according to the little I know. Jesus is the only man without sin in the whole world I was made to understand, but does that mean calling a group of people dogs, even if they’re sinners is not sin? No wait, he meant it, if this woman had left by then, that’s not being persistent enough, her daughter may not have been healed and she would have been demeaned to being a dog for her sins. This is discrimination too, no one can tell me that the Israelites Jesus said he was sent for were all non-sinners. I go to church every Sunday and serve God the best I can, but I can’t tell you I’m not a sinner.
This woman was really strong, she didn’t give up, and she said: ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.’ then Jesus answered her, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you desire. ‘And her daughter was healed instantly.” Did you understand the same thing I understood here? Two things are involved here: first of all, this woman was courageous enough to speak for herself and her faith was really strong so she gained her daughters healing after all the delay. Good!
Secondly, this woman had to accept she and her people were dogs and that the Israelites were the masters, before she could gain her healing. In this context, this is not humility as you may think, or was this why Jesus asked us to turn the other cheek for the slap? From another point of view, I will see this as pride in Jesus’ side, you have the power to heal someone, so you make her lick your feet before helping her, and you made her accept your insult. If I was in Jesus’ shoe, I’ll be scared God may take back the power he conferred on me .
These things leave me pondering a lot; they make me want to lose my faith. I’m not trying to judge the bible; I just want to understand it better. I need your comments and explanations. You can email me directly spanevictor@yahoo.com or leave me a comment below.

  1. I'm am profoundly glad that more and more people are beginning to think logically about religion.
Slowly everyone will accept the truth that religion is a big scam, no one knows anything for sure. Let us focus on our problems and leave shadows to chase shadows.

  2. Rubbish, better beg God for forgiveness for blasphemy. Jesus was speaking figuratively when he said that. He didn't call the woman or anyone a dog for that matter. What he said is similar to saying, don't give unto peter what belongs to paul. If someone says that to you does it mean you are Peter?

Just pray for God to open your eyes and always read your bible. The Devil is slowly pulling you from Christ our one and onlu saviour.

I have said my own, he who has ears let him hear. Hell is no funny place to end up in at all.

    1. It is self righteous people like you that give Christians a bad name. The arrogance of you go mete out judgment instantly! I can only but hope that your god bears no semblance to you. I wonder what you'll say about instances in the old testament when your god saved a particular group of people and killed the rest. It'll be really hilarious if it turns out you're not amongst the chosen ones and you're just here wasting your time lol

  3. 1st of all, lemme start of by calling Ur attention to d fact dat religious teachings and blasphemy theory can't let U think straight again. I'll show U a mirror to look at ur self right now: Have U ever wondered Y a normal human will accept to go on a suicide bomb mission all in d name of religion and God. These people spend few months or years on training grounds and dey're brainwashed completely by experts, talk more of U who dey started working on from day of birth, from sunday school days. Lol, U no go gree nah. Do U think U're neutral any longer. These suicide pple can't think straight dey sooo beliv deir minds, so U are too, and lol me too.
One question for U is dis, if I follow Jesus' steps on dat passage, treating a fellow christian dat way, will I be justified? Now if no, then its so simple to say Jesus was not sin free. From the bible stories, we learnt that man got infected from Adam's time, and all descendant followed, waiiit! Mary was at least Adam's descendant, so don't tink wat U tink. Jesus felt pain and emotions like every normal man, so also he did wrong like every other man. Now the fear of hell has made U to refuse to use common sense. Well, I don't blame christians much because a good percentage have been washed with this belief from birth, but that's a discussion for another day. So whether the "Dog" comparing was literal or a proverb, there was a discrimination, and that's the major issue you can't fix. Calling Jesus sinless won't deify him more, nor calling him sinner bring him down. There are countless portions of the bible where he made questionable moves, but we often cover them up with the God God God theory and fail to reason things out. Open your eyes all and understand our God well, ok.

  4. There is a lot of inconsistencies in the bible honestly and that's just one religious book, don't even get me started on the rest of them. Track back to the old testament when God chose the Israeli folks as his own and ended up killing a bunch of other people for them. Thinking about that and how he supposedly created all of humanity doesn't add up at all. I'm myself an agnostic respecter of religions, but I really can't stand the self righteous ones that come flat out to condemn people as though they are sin free themselves. I actually like the current pope, very nice guy and liberal as well, if only all Christians and religious folks were to emulate him, religion would certainly be better perceived.
